MY WORKS

Why I want to Study Architecture at MSA

Globally acknowledged as one of the best Architecture schools in UK and situated in the heart of an
architecturally dynamic city, The University of Manchester has captivated my aspiration as a future architect. When I looked up the website, I was mesmerized by the ambience augmented by traditional architecture existing in the campus along Oxford Street. The academic footprint of the University in the architectural field impressed me. It was overwhelming to see the Nobel Laureates whose contributions I have grown up studying to be listed among the alumni. As I am an enthusiast in Art, a Campus incorporating an Art Gallery thrills me. The appraisals of the professional architectural institutions like RIBA and ARB fuels my inspiration to be educated here so I may nurture my creativity in building effectively.

My own review of a building that I have visited:  Jahaz Mahal in Mandu

Strewn with the relics of 555 A.D., Mandu, Madhya Pradesh, India is the place I adore. The 64 kilometers of broken wall over hills and valleys, watchtowers, temples, mosques and palaces of medieval India are the highlights of Mandu. The wall encompassing Mandu has 12 major gates or darwazas. The Jahazmahal (Ship Palace) manifests the excellence of medieval architecture. Situated between two artificial lakes, this two storied architectural marvel is so named as it appears to be a ship floating in water. The exquisite beauty of motif windows and the twin lakes or Talao weaves the magic.

A statement about my favourite architect

Frank Lloyd Wright had become my favourite architect ever since I saw his “Falling Water”, a pinnacle of architectural achievement in bonding a built habitat organically with nature. His breaking away from the tradition and coming into the ‘Prairie School of Architecture’, paved the way to a new spacious, comfortable and economic way of urban planning. In most of his designed homes, the main spaces keep flowing together in an uninterrupted manner. This part of the concept appeals to me most.

A work of architecture which I would like to experience in person

The building I dream of visiting is Zaha Hadid’s Guanzhou Opera House overlooking the Pearl River, transforming the emerging town then without a face. This incredible structure has a “raw, vital, earthy quality” Ms. Hadid professes. This centre of urban function flaunts a contoured profile of twin boulder design, a flowing approach promenade and an open access to the riverside. This exciting cultural monument showcases the stunning use of structure and glass. The soaring contour lines merging easily with the lines of walkways, staircases, promenades, water bodies and seats cradled
in the ‘folds’ of concrete create an orchestra-like harmony.
